Here's something for you to think about while going about
your courier work. Let's say you have a certain number of parcels to deliver in
a shift. Delivering them as quickly as possible will be part of your plan,
otherwise you won't be able to fit them all in. However, being fast is not the
only part of the equation here - and it may not be the most important either.
Is there a difference between speed and efficiency?
Yes indeed there is - and this tends to surprise some
people. Being fast does not necessarily equate to being efficient. Let's look
at a couple of examples to see how this works in the courier business in the Courier
services near me.
Let's imagine two courier drivers - Dave and Terry. They
each have the same type of van and forty parcels to deliver on a single day.
They both load up their vans and start out at the same time. Dave is keen to
get going so he drives off and starts delivering without paying attention to
which deliveries are where. He has already completed his first delivery before
Terry is even out of the yard.
However, Terry has not been idle. He has taken the time to
plan his route effectively. He has also noted where the local road works are so
he can avoid them on his way round. In this way he will be far more efficient
than Dave, because while he gets a later start he manages to avoid the traffic
jam Dave is now stuck in after completing three deliveries.
In the end, Terry drives into the yard a full half hour
before Dave. He has completed all his drops in less time and with less mileage
to boot. By working more efficiently, Terry has managed to give a better service
and one that is nowhere near as rushed. Dave could certainly learn a thing or
two from Terry if he stopped long enough to realize he was offering a better
and more efficient service.
